What is a chemical peel?
A chemical peel uses a chemical solution to smooth the texture of skin by removing damaged layers. It can help improve acne, acne scars, sun-damaged skin, age spots, rough patches and fine lines and wrinkles.
Chemical Peels are a common method for refreshing the skin. Our chemical peels are performed or supervised by Dr. Atkins at the Atlanta Medispa. Many times, this is a great way to address uneven skin pigmentation, mild acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, solar damage and large pores.
The skin represents our body’s largest organ; it is live tissue that should be treated with care. Our team will advise each patient on which chemical peel they should choose based on if they desire a superficial chemical that will allow them to glow that weekend or one that is much deeper with the goal of removing deep lines. Many times, we suggest a combination of chemical peels and laser resurfacing. The patient will be educated on the downtime necessary for the procedure that they choose.
About Chemical Peels
Superficial chemical peels should result in some redness with or without mild flaking.
Medium depth chemical peels can result in prolonged redness with or without some blistering and skin sloughing.
Deep peels usually require that the patient has some pain control. Dressings must be placed on the skin afterwards to allow skin rejuvenation. Only a physician should perform these. Deep “peeling” of damaged skin is not appropriate for or desired by many patients.
Proper Treatment
There is no reason for allowing anyone without appropriate training and expertise to treat your skin. You will feel very comfortable knowing that we have performed thousands of chemical peels with a high patient satisfaction record.
We offer packages that combine superficial and intermediate chemical peel techniques with our SilkPeel® microdermabrasion chemical infusion system. These lighter, superficial peels serve to freshen the skin and lesson the pore size, leaving the skin freshened and rejuvenated.
What type of chemical peels are available?
Glycolic acid peel: Our specially formulated Glycolic peel safely removes the outer layer of dead skin cells, bringing fresh, new skin to the surface. This is beneficial for those who are looking for products that help with anti-aging. Glycolic acid can also help lighten discoloration of the skin, such as sun spots, age spots, and help those with acne-prone and blackhead-prone skin.
PCA ultra peel: Although specially formulated to treat maturing skin, PCA Ultra Peel is also appropriate for many other skin types, conditions, and sensitivities. It will help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while promoting an even skin tone and clear complexion.
PCA peel Hydroquinone free: This enhanced Jessner’s solution is ideal for more sensitive skin types, ethnic skin or those allergic to or sensitive to hydroquinone. This treatment will help to rejuvenate and improve the appearance of breakout-prone skin, while also promoting an even, bright skin tone.
PCA peel with Hydroquinone: This enhanced Jessner’s formula is for those who want an even skin tone and have no sensitivity to hydroquinone. In addition, this peel helps promote an even skin tone and a clear complexion.
PCA peel with Hydroquinone and resorcinol: The most potent of our enhanced Jessner’s formulas. This peel will even skin tone and provide more exfoliation for oilier, thicker, and more resilient skin types. Furthermore, it is extremely effective on sun-damaged and thickened skin. It is also excellent for those with active or cystic acne and asphyxiated skin. In other words, if your skin is dry on the surface, oily underneath, or those who require deeper treatment.
