What is ear pinning?
The shape of the external ear can be a source of great frustration for children and their parents, and also for adults. Young children with large or over-projecting ears can be the recipients of psychologically harmful ridicule from other children. Ear pinning can correct the appearance of large or over-projecting ears. Accordingly, correction of the ears can greatly impact a child’s self-esteem for years to come.
Adults who never have their ear shape addressed can gain a renewed sense of confidence after such surgery. While we call the surgery to correct ear shape an “otoplasty,” it may also be called “ear reshaping” or even “ear pinning”.

Ear pinning is a gratifying procedure to correct ear shape and over-projection.
What is the ear pinning procedure like?
Our surgeon will evaluate the patient to specifically determine what the concern is. They will then review the surgical goal of creating re-shaped external ears that not only are aesthetically pleasing, but do not bring attention to the ears. The surgical procedure is performed under general anesthesia in children and can be performed under local anesthesia, with or without sedation, in adults.
Ear pinning is performed by creating limited incisions on the back of the ear.
Our surgeon positions the ear to a more desirable contour and projection from the side of the head by re-shaping the existing cartilage. They then place and leaves dressings on for several days to help with healing and minimizing the scarring process.
